The Data Masker
Set Schemas Tab

The Set Schemas Tab displays the Oracle database schemas known to the Data Masker software and also enables the maintenance of information regarding these schemas (password and TNS connection details etc).

All schema information is used and stored in the context of a Data Masker concept known as a Masking Set. Masking Sets consist of a collection of schema connection details, table structure definitions and masking rules. Masking operations are performed by Running a Masking Set which essentially means telling the Data Masker to connect to the specified schemas (configured on this tab) and execute the rules configured on the Set Rules tab.

The Data Masker Set Schemas Tab

The panel on the top of the Set Schemas Tab lists the schemas in the Masking Set. The current version of Data Masker can configure a Masking Set for up to 64 schemas. To see the details on a schema click on the schema name with the mouse and press the Update User button.

When the Data Masker starts, the Target Schema and Target DB fields are blank. This connection information is usually defined when the New Set Wizard is run and then saved and loaded with the Masking Set. However the information can be added manually via the Add a New User button.

The Target schema information can be changed or updated at any later date. Hence it is quite possible to develop a Masking Set against one database and then change the Target schema and database connection information so that the masking operation takes place against a completely different database. Please note that if the connection information is changed then any tables and columns referenced by any rules in the set must be exactly identical or an error will occur when running the Masking Set.

The Update Existing User panel contains the buttons which can add, discard, modify or test the connection details for each schema in the Masking Set. The button will operate on the schema currently selected in the top panel.

The Current Masking Set panel contains the name of the currently loaded Masking Set. This is the filename that is the container for the various component files and contains information on all users in the Masking Set. The Masking Set Overview contains more information about the structure and format of a Masking Set.

The New Masking Set Wizard button launches a series of screens which will walk you through the process of creating a new Masking Set. Although Masking Sets can be built through individual configuration actions the Wizard is by far the easiest way to setup a new Masking Set. It is strongly advised to use the Wizard to build the basic structure of all new Masking Sets.
